FAQ
I forgot my password and/or OTP, what do I do?
Contact an administrator in your organization and they can help you reset the password or OTP. If you don't know who the administrators are you should contact the person who created your Synkzone account.
I don't see any zones when I've signed in.
Contact the person who's responsible for the zone(s) (the zone manager) and make sure that you're a member of the zone. Also make sure that the zone is enabled for the client type you're using (desktop/web/api).
I can't open files in a zone when using the desktop client.
Open the zone settings and verify that a zone location is specified.
I can't add a user as a member to a zone
- Only zone managers can handle zone memberships, make sure you have the applicable access level.
- Does the user exist? A user has to be created before giving it membership in a zone. Verify (or create a new user) in the coworkers view.
- Is the user a guest user? A user with authorization level guest can only be a member of one zone.
Which zone type should I use?
| If you need: | Zone type |
|---|---|
| A shared workspace where files can be synchronized locally | Normal |
| Additional control where the content requires authentication and should not be stored locally in cleartext when using desktop clients | Read protected |
Which user authorization level should I use when creating a new user?
Synkzone has different authorization levels for different types of users.
| If the person is: | Recommended user authorization level |
|---|---|
| System administrator or person responsible for administration | Administrator |
| Manager, project leader or responsible for business unit | Group administrator |
| Employee in your organization | Internal |
| External partner who needs access to multiple zones | External |
| External partner who only needs access to one zone | Guest |
Why should groups be used?
A group is a collection of users that can be administrated together. Instead of adding users individually as members to a zone you can add a group as member. The members of the group will get zone access level according to their group membership. It is particularly useful for:
- departments
- project teams
- work groups
- groups that are repeated in multiple zones
